05-04-2017 - Ventura Lambrate and Ventura Centrale @ Salone del Mobile. A daily blog by Margriet Vollenberg.

TEXT MARGRIET VOLLENBERG

Wednesday 5th of April – I couldn't catch my sleep last night... Why? I'm just so excited that we pulled it off again this year!

I was walking over the fairground of the 8th Ventura Lambrate yesterday, taking some time to see it all in full glory. In the past editions hundreds and hundreds of designers found their opening in the design world by exhibiting with us in Ventura Lambrate in Milan during the Salone del Mobile. I see them often and sometimes, even years later, they are working for brands at the fair, having solo exhibitions at galleries or their products are in collections of international brands.... Or they are an international brand themselves!

'IT MAKES ME PROUD KNOWING
THAT I PLAYED A TINY PART IN THE
DEVELOPMENT OF THE CAREERS
OF THESE DESIGNERS'

Like for example Camille Riboulleau, who I had a coffee with today. A few years ago he had a show at our fairground, today he developed his prototype and he is doing so well, tons of projects piling up. So happy I've been able to see these designers grow. It makes me proud knowing that I played a tiny part in the development of the careers of these designers and a little help in this big and sometimes not easy design world!

It reminds me never to stand still. And boy, I didn't sat still today! I crisscrossed through town, from appointment to appointment. Ready to talk future! First together with the director of a co-working design space in Brooklyn, I examined the possibility of a collaboration for the upcoming Ventura New York. And then I had a meeting to discuss the option of starting an event in for us yet unknown territory, the Middle East. So much to get excited over, but first back to the order of the day! I needed to tick off a television interview of Sky Arte and where better to do that than in between the magical installations of glass manufacturer Salviati at Ventura Centrale.

'THAT IS WHAT SUMS UP THE MILANO
DESIGN WEEK FOR ME. A BIG
OUTBURST OF DESIGN MADNESS!'

Being there brought me back to yesterday evening, when a hundred meters away, we celebrated the opening of Ventura Centrale with an aperitivo. The evening became truly memorable when one of the godfathers of Milanese design, of the one and only Atelier Mendini, joined to personally accept the 'King of Pixelated Design' award that was given to him for the creation of the chair he produced in collaboration with ecopixel. How cool it was to see this master between all these young designers.

That is what sums up the Milano Design Week for me. It is one big intertwined spider web of design-hungry devotees, both experienced and fresh off the boat. And when you put them in one city for a week they draw up endless new ideas and plans - a big outburst of design madness. And I love it! Keep on dreaming, keep on designing.... A domani!
